FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Four Talibaninfo-icon militants have joined the reconciliation process in northeastern Badakhshan province while police handed over some weapons to the Disarmament of Illegal Arms Groups (DIAG), an official said on Monday.

Provincial Police Chief Maj. Gen. Abdul Khaleq Aqsai told Pajhwok Afghan News government doors were open for armed groups who want to renounce violence and reconcile.

Armed groups were welcomed and the government would strive to provide them with best jobs and other facilities of livelihood, he added.

Aqsai said the reconciled insurgents handed over four AK-47 Kalashnikovs and a pistol to security forces.

A member of the reconciled militants said they considered their struggles unfair and decided to join peace process.

Separately, police handed over some weapons rounded up during separate operation to DIAG in a formal ceremony.

Police chief said the recovery of weapons helped prevented several security incidents.
